The event is not only an important milestone for Vietnam's energy industry but also a testament to effective and sustainable international cooperation.

Phu My 2.2 Power Plant is the first build-operate-transfer (BOT) project in Vietnam to be licensed through international bidding. With a total investment of 400 million USD, the project is supported by 3 leading corporations in the world: EDF (France), Sumitomo and JERA (Japan).

This is also the first project to be fully funded by foreign investors, including prestigious organizations such as the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Proparco.

Phu My 2.2 Power Plant

Located in Phu My town, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, Phu My 2.2 Power Plant with a capacity of 715 MW has met the urgent energy needs of Southern Vietnam in the context of strong economic growth.

Using advanced combined cycle technology, the plant has contributed to increasing power generation efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and effectively exploiting natural gas resources from Nam Con Son mine.

During 20 years of operation, Phu My 2.2 Power Plant has produced more than 91 TWh of electricity, accounting for a significant portion of the total national electricity output. The plant also set several technical records, including an annual availability of 94.8% in 2022 and a streak of 100% reliability for 152 consecutive days in 2023. These achievements reflect the commitment and efforts of international partners in bringing sustainable value to the Vietnamese energy industry.

In addition to contributing to the technical and operational aspects, Phu My 2.2 Plant is also a testament to international cooperation in building a solid foundation of social responsibility. Over the past 20 years, Mekong Energy has implemented 54 CSR projects, especially in the field of children's education, while creating a close relationship with the local community.

Labor safety and environmental protection are also core values of the project. The factory is proud of more than 13 consecutive years without serious labor accidents, along with 15 years of achieving 3 ISO standards certification on quality, safety and environment.

According to the plan, on February 4, 2025, Phu My 2.2 Factory will be transferred to Vietnamese authorities and Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN). This transfer process is carefully prepared, including human resource training activities, equipment maintenance and close cooperation between related parties.

According to Mr. Augusto Soares Dos Reis, Director of Mekong Energy Company Limited, the transfer of the factory not only ensures continuity in management but also opens up opportunities to develop green energy projects in Vietnam. Therefore, this transfer process has been anticipated and carefully prepared by Mekong Energy Company for many years to facilitate the future operation reception process.
